Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) - Licorice root a beneficial herbal medicine for asthmatics due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Licorice root can be used to relieve inflammations of the respiratory systems. It promotes the production of interferon, assists adrenal gland function, decreases muscle spasms and increases the fluidity of mucus to counter a dry cough. Do not ingest Licorice Root in large quantities as it can increase blood pressure and decrease potassium levels, when consumed in large amounts or for long periods of time.

Fennel Seed (Foeniculum vulgare) - Fennel seeds are a good source of potassium, a nutrient that helps in naturally controlling the acid-base balance, regulates the heart rate, dilates the blood vessels and stabilizes blood pressure. Fennel is rich in phytoestrogens

Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica) - Stinging nettle has been used around the world to treat asthma, allergies, coughs, rheumatism, and the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It has been given as a diuretic and an antispasmodic.

Cardamom Pods (Elettaria cardamomum) - Cardamom has an active ingredient called cineole, that is antimicrobial and antiseptic and helps prevent any bacterial infection that could affect the lungs directly or indirectly. Cardamom plays a role in fighting asthma symptoms like wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath and tightness in the chest. The spice makes breathing easier by enhancing blood circulation within the lungs. It also fights related inflammation by soothing the mucus membranes. There are reports claiming the use of green cardamom to treat asthma, bronchitis, and numerous other respiratory issues.

Sweet Annie (Artemisia annua) - The early Hawaiians extensively used sweet Annie as a medicinal plant to treat various lung problems, asthma, and other respiratory conditions where no phlegm was produced.

Juniper Berries (Juniperus communis) - Juniper berries are used to clean the body, making it very valuable for asthma sufferers. Juniper contains a number of alcohols, sugar, sulphur and resin which are all beneficial in the treatment of asthma.
